One Future Post: Volume 5
This volume explores the role of poetry for making one feel wholly and for evoking powerful emotions. Deriving strength from poetry to participate in this dreary world makes it a form of resistance.
Curator Speaks
In our everyday exhaustion of dealing with social injustices in the world, we yearn for recuperative rest. Poetry as a subversive art, as an accommodating art, as a medium of engaging in solidarity and comradeship with the world, could offer to become the center of contemporary survival. Poetry as a medium can serve many purposes, especially in how we relate to each other and in social justice. This theme delves into the transformative power of poetry, transcending yet rooting the mundane, while weaving a narrative where written, observed, and felt language uses a rhythmic flair to house difficult emotions incited by the everyday, thus exploring restoration in both - the loud stillness and the silent screams witnessed in feeling, in observing.Â
The incredible Jerin Anne Jacob has curated this volume of One Future Post. Jerin is a poet-educator in Language and Literature who sees and makes sense of the world through poetry and considers herself to be a story collector. She is a doctoral research scholar working with retellings of contemporary biblical narratives in India. A firm believer of writing and art driven activism, she works with education as a medium for social change. You can read more of her work here. Â
